violence against Palestinian women

February 3 [Article]

The Palestinian Center for Peace and Democracy held an interview with the director and members of the Union of Palestinian Women's Committees in Nablus on violence against women.

The manifestations of violence against Palestinian women, their repercussions, and the reasons for their existence were discussed.

The Director of the Union, Mrs. Ismat Shakhshir, mentioned the role that the Union provides as a feminist institution for Palestinian women, in terms of cultural, guiding, and economic support to empower them, enhance their role, and adopt their issues.

They also discussed proposals and ways to prevent violence and how to implement them, stressing the importance of having laws that are fair to women, the importance of implementing the Family Protection Law from Violence and the CEDAW Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the importance of having political strategies to support women's rights, fairness, and implementation on the ground.

This meeting comes within the project "Towards a Public Opinion in Support of Women’s Rights" with the support of the MCC Foundation.
