"Child, not wife" campaign
On November 13th 2015, a group of young leaders from the "Women and Youth against violence" initiative led a campaign addressing early marriage in Palestine.
A group of young leaders met in Ramallah and participated in a series of activities, including drawing and drafting slogans about the issue of early marriage. The group then demonstrated in front of the Palestinian Legislative Council to demand a greater protection of young Palestinian girls against early marriage and related issues of domestic violence and abuse. They led interviews to be published on social medias, expressing their needs and demands and promoting the campaign.
The group of youth then visited the Tent of Solidarity, contributing to the advocacy event demanding a greater protection of the Palestinian people.
Early marriage is an issue in Palestine that it largely ignored or denied; however, the campaign "Child, not bride" seeks to highlight the existing reality and promote a mobilization of decision-makers and community members to address it and ensure the protection of young girls from early marriage in the Palestinian legislation and laws.
