European Endowment for Democracy Video Contest: PCPD receives the Runner-Up Award!

At the beginning of December, PCPD received the great news that its video "Democracy stems from HER home" won the runner-up award for the European Endowment for Democracy's video contest "60 seconds of Democracy".

This contest, opened in August and open to all, invited all professional and amateur filmmakers from countries where EED works to produce a video of a duration 60 seconds around the question: "What does democracy mean to me?". All styles were eligible, as long as the theme and duration were respected.

In total, 70 videos were submitted to EED through their website. The selection process went through 4 different phases: The EED Secretariat completed a pre-selection in 2 phases, after which the EED Grantee Expert Committee short-listed 17 videos; these videos are all available on the EED Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/democracyendowment). The final selection was completed through the EED Executive Committee vote, after which PCPD's video was selected as the runner-up winner.

With the prize of 1,000€, PCPD is planning on training youth groups on how to use media platforms to amplify their voices about societal and democratic issues, and how to use visual outputs to support their advocacy efforts. The media productions will be shared on PCPD's social media platforms and website, in order to expand the reach of the message and increase the visibility of the organization and its partners. PCPD believes that in order to create change in the democracy scene in Palestine, youth have to be involved in the process, which is a main objective that PCPD has been striving to achieve since its establishment in 1992.

Producing and distributing videos has been for PCPD a very efficient method to raise awareness and drive change in the Palestinian society, particularly when it comes to contributing to a change in attitude and behaviors towards the respect of women and girls' rights.

The results that will be achieved thanks to the prize from this award will be shared with the EED team during an online awards event planned for 2016.

The videos from the contest, including PCPD's, can be found on the EED website: https://www.democracyendowment.eu/eed-contest/
Congratulations to the other winners!

PCPD is tremendously happy for winning this runner-up award and thanks its supporters and the EED for their support! We are looking forward to achieving above-and-beyond results with the prize received.
