Woman's Program

Currently, women’s participation in politics, national and democratic platforms is much less than the role they played during the last three decades of last century, where they held remarkable weight in political parties, trade unions, committees, associations and popular organizations.  They played a pivotal role during in the first Intifada (uprising) (intifada). They were part of all popular and media committees; were active in schools, colleges and universities, and their participation in decision-making was as powerful as their counter-parts, the men.

Despite the existence of women's associations, women's civil institutions and women democratic and humanitarian institutions, all these mechanisms and tools have not succeeded in lifting women out of the marginalization circle, nor from the closed private sphere to the open public sphere

PCPD believes that there is great importance for the allocation of special programs for women due to the importance of this sector in the political, economic and social life development. We also believe, that there is an urgent need to work on the horizontal level, with women organizations, to raising awareness and dissemination of knowledge, and on the vertical level to enhance their capacity, empower them, enrich their experience and skills, adopt women's identified initiatives which aims to raising their level for political participation. PCPD will also support women’s legislation by re-visiting the Palestinian constitution, especially since the third draft of the constitution is dealing with women as third-class citizens.
